Great makeup starts with great preparation, but you don’t need a complicated skincare routine before your appointment.
Keep it simple! Gently cleanse, moisturise and keep your skin hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment.
Keep your skincare consistent. Avoid introducing new products, strong acids or treatments in the days before your event. Your skin is much happier with what it already knows.
Hydrate your skin. Moisturised skin helps makeup sit beautifully and gives you a fresher, more comfortable finish.
Exfoliate gently. If your skin normally benefits from exfoliation, gently exfoliate two to three days before the appointment. If your skin breaks out or you cannot exfoliate please skin this step and focus on drinking plenty of water and moisturising on the lead up to your appointment.
Don’t pick! If a blemish appears, leave it alone. Trying to squeeze or treat it aggressively can create redness and texture that is much harder to work.
Arrive with clean skin. Follow your usual morning skincare routine and allow your moisturiser to settle before your appointment.
And remember, you don't need perfect skin for beautiful makeup. Your makeup artist can work with your skin exactly as it is and enhance what makes you, you.
If you use retinols, AHAs, BHAs, chemical peels or other treatments that can cause the skin to peel or become sensitive, I advise stopping these in advance of your makeup appointment ideally 7-10 days before to allow the skin to repair its barrier. This helps avoid unnecessary dryness, sensitivity or peeling and allows your makeup to sit beautifully on the skin.. If you are using these from the advise of a gp, dermatologist or skincare specialist I strongly advise speaking to them before stopping treatment.
