What If I Have Acne or a Breakout Before My Event?

A last-minute breakout can happen, especially in the lead up to a special occasion  but don't panic!

Don't pick or squeeze it. Redness, swelling and broken skin are much more difficult to work with from a makeup artist point of view and unfortuntely we cannot work near or on areas of broken, oozing or infected skin so I would advise to leave the pimple untouched.

Stick to your normal skincare routine. Avoid introducing lots of new products in an attempt to clear it overnight. Your skin doesn't need any extra stress before your event.

Keep your skin hydrated. Even blemish-prone skin needs moisture, particularly when you're going to be wearing makeup for several hours.

My top tip for a last-minute blemish

  • Apply Sudocrem or a pimple patch to the area in the days leading up to your appointment. Both can help protect the area from being touched and provide targeted care while your skin settles.
  • I recommend using one of these methods on the days before your appointment and again the night before if the blemish is still there. Don't pick it, don't squeeze it and resist the temptation to keep applying different treatments!

And most importantly, don't cancel your makeup appointment because of your skin.

**Please ensure the pimple patch or remedy you are using is suitable for you i.e. some pimple patches contain vitamin A so are not suitable during pregnancy**

Professional makeup isn't about having flawless skin. It's about using the right preparation, products and techniques to create a beautiful, long-lasting finish while still allowing your natural skin to look like skin.

You don't need perfect skin to feel incredible at your event. 🤍
